Wild Alberta takes the original dioramas once displayed in the original Habitat Gallery and presents them in a dynamic new setting, featuring the latest environmental research and understanding of how ecosystems work. Wild Alberta’s goal is to encourage visitors to see the wild through different eyes.
This remarkable project has been made possible through partnerships between the Museum, The Federation of Alberta Naturalists, and several other agencies and corporations. Wild Alberta has become a vital centre for environmental education for all Albertans, particularly students and teachers.
In front of each diorama, visitors will see interpretive panels containing;
comprehensive case studies based upon the most recent scientific research,
stories exploring conservation issues faced by the dioramas’ feature animals, and
interpretive facts that will help visitors better understand their wild neighbours.
Highlights include:
a model of a drop of water enlarged 200 times showing myriad tiny organisms (the sort of creatures that make up most of the planet’s biodiversity),
a mountain cave leading visitors under a real waterfall,
live native fish in aquaria featuring information on conservation or our fish resources,
a slough diorama featuring the sites and sounds encountered in a wetland environment,
a re-creation of a recently burned forest fire, and
The Field Station, which gives students and visitors the opportunity to fill the shoes of a scientist in the field.

Royal Alberta Museum Society announced an exciting new partnership that will support environmental
education throughout the next decade.
