Using the site

The three dimensional objects in the virtual collection were made using a mechanical turntable which allows a digital camera to photograph the items in degree increments. Once these photos are taken, they are stitched together and compiled into a QuickTime VR file.

We generated three different sizes in consideration of visitors with varying internet bandwidth and computer specifications. The low resolution size is approximately 500k, the medium resolution is about 2 megabytes and the large resolution is approximately 10 megabytes. The medium and large resolution images are the same dimensions but have the medium resolution's rotational increments is coarser.

The artifacts can be rotated by clicking on the image and dragging the mouse in any direction. You can zoom-in on an image by leaving your cursor over the image and pressing the shift button of your keyboard. Use the control key to zoom out. You can also reposition the zoomed-in image by holding shift and control and dragging with the mouse.
