Family Day weekend activities
February 18 – 20, 2012
Travelling exhibits, permanent galleries, tours, entertainment & more! It's Family Day weekend at the Museum!
There's much to see and do at the Royal Alberta Museum over the Family Day weekend. Plus on Monday, February 20, for one day only, it's all FREE!
On Monday only, internationally renowned Green Fools Theatre will be at the Museum Theatre with their outstanding production of puppetry, movement, music and drama.
Project: Whooping Crane wordlessly weaves its tale, intertwining art and science in a breathtaking mix of music, mask and life-size puppetry. The story, fit for all ages, follows the lives of two cranes–one taken from the wild and placed in a captive breeding program, the other born in captivity and released into the wild–and the human stewards who dedicate their lives to their survival. It's an inspiring ecological puppet show about friendship, dedication, struggle and survival.
The 55-minute stage show utilizes a variety of puppetry styles including life-size, hand, rod, shadow, stilt, bunraku, marionette puppets and masked characters.
Performances are at 11:30am and 1:30pm. No reservations. Limited seating. No late or re-admittance.
All weekend long, interpreters will welcome guests to the galleries; Visitors will also have the opportunity to explore two new photo exhibits, Faces of Labour (opened Feb. 4) and Winged Tapestries: Moths at Large (opening Feb. 18).
