Geology

Galena cubes perched on white and translucent calcite. Sweetwater Mine, Missouri.

Geology is the study of the planet Earth - the materials of which it is made, the processes that act on these materials, the products formed, and the history of the planet and its life forms. The Geology program acquires and preserves rocks, minerals and fossils that document the geology of Alberta. The program interprets Geology to the public through the use of lectures, publications and exhibits; provides some identification services; provides a resource collection for professionals and amateurs and provides a depository for rare and valuable minerals and gemstones belonging to the people of Alberta.
