The period between 1900 and 1915 is known as the Edwardian era. It was a time of luxury and elegance, technological and scientific innovation, and social progress.
The Empress defined Edwardian characteristics in many ways.
The ship décor was elegant, especially the art nouveau-inspired designs in the First Class dining room. There were modern amenities such as the Marconi Wireless Telegraph apparatus, with which a ship operator sent and received telegraphs. The Empress was known as a reliable and safe ship, and importantly, she offered her guests a pleasant voyage. Even Third Class passengers enjoyed comfortable accommodations.
