Earrings from the headdress of a Xiongnu noblewoman, circa fourth to second centuries B.C. The headdress, of which these are a part, is constructed of hammered and decorated gold strips and mother-of-pearl inlaid in gold and was complete with necklaces of quartz, agate, amber, and liuli (glass-glaze) strung beads as well as earrings. The earrings feature large openwork jade pendants set in gold rims, attached to gold plaques that feature relief designs of deer.
