 Tennessee Warbler
 Vermivora peregrina

Size 115mm Weight 9 g

 Description

A grey crown, olive green upperparts, white underparts, blackish eyestripe and white line above the eye are features that distinguish the Tennessee Warbler.
 Habitat
The preferred habitat is found in the open deciduous, mixed and coniferous forests boreal zone with Engelmann spruce, balsam fir, grasses, dense shrubs and scattered clumps of young deciduous trees.
 Song
The Tennessee Warbler is a highly vocal species in which only the male sings, with a loud and determined staccato 3-part song as represented by "ticka ticka ticka ticka, swit swit, sit-sit-sit-sit-sit-sit" or "sidit-sidit-sidit-sidit-swit-swit-sit-sit-sit-sit-sit-sit." It is the song of the Tennessee Warbler that often signals in eastern North American the peak of spring songbird migration.
 Similar Species
Orange-crowned Warbler.
 Comments
The Tennessee Warbler is described as a quick, nervous and active species that is a spruce budworm specialist and favours nectar and fruit during the winter season.
The Tennessee Warbler's transient breeding fluctuations are directly related to outbreaks of the Spruce Budworm.
The nest of the Tennessee Warbler is remarkably concealed by sphagnum moss and the bird's tendency to build nests at the base of small shrubs and trees.
