This report proposes a procedure for evaluation and comparison of geological sites. Questionnaires have been devised that determine Geological Significance, Degree of Threat, and Educational/Interpretive value. After a site has been evaluated using these questionnaires, final scores for geological significance and degree of threat are combined to determine protection priority. Final scores for educational/interpretive value are broken down into three categories: low, moderate, and high. Several geological sites in Alberta are evaluated to show how this procedure is intended to work. A thematic classification scheme for geological sites in Alberta is outlined. This scheme provides a framework to compare and consider geological features in the province. A short discussion on management considerations for protection of sites is included.
