Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
If you want to donate this object to the museum we will need to examine it for condition, provenance and compare it to the objects we already have in the collections. If we then accept the artifact, we issue a Certificate of Gift, have the artifact appraised and issue a tax receipt for its fair market value.
We are only allowed to place values on objects that are accepted by the Museum as donations. If you need the value for insurance or for your own interest, there are a number of appraisers who would provide you with that information.
If you describe the item we may be able to identify it but if that's not possible you could bring the item or a photograph with measurements and markings to the Museum. We can examine the item and compare it to similar objects in the Museum's collections and reference catalogues. If we are still unable to identify the item we will provide you with other sources of reference.
