Engagement

Content

RAM is a place where connections are made, stories shared, and communities reunite with their history to create a vibrant future. We build meaningful relationships with diverse communities of Alberta, seeking to understand their needs and integrate what we learn into the work across the entire museum.

Engagement at RAM is divided into two main sections:

Indigenous Engagement

Engaging with Indigenous communities means building respectful, reciprocal relationships that honor Indigenous knowledge, culture, and sovereignty. It means listening to voices, collaborating on decisions about collections, exhibits, and programs, and aligning practices with cultural protocols. Engagement is ongoing—not a one-time consultation—and is grounded in a commitment to truth and reconciliation.

Community Engagement

Engaging with Communities means fostering two-way relationships where people feel heard, respected, and involved in shaping the museum’s work. Effective engagement builds trust, relevance, and inclusivity, ensuring the museum is a space that reflects and serves its communities. It’s about partnership, not just outreach, and fostering shared ownership in cultural storytelling.
